Takaro Progressive Association

The general committee of the Takaro Progressive Association met at the residence of Mrs. D. Evans on Tuesday, those present being Messrs. E. H. Smith (chairman), J. Wass, W. B. Ellis, W. Rat cl iff e, P. G. Brookie, J. H. Cribb (honorary secretary). Mesdames D. Evans, R. Packer, G. Foster, J. Wass.

It was decided that Mrs. Evans, tho president, vice-president and honorary secretary attend the citizens meeting in connection with the centennial celebrations for Palmerston North, in answer to tho Mayor’s invitation.

Tho report and balance-sheet to bo presented at the annual general meeting were discussed, the affairs of tho association being considered in a healthy condition.

The committee’s attention had again been drawn to the state of the intersection of Bryant and Chelvvood {Street on tho south side; also to the intersection of Bryant and Cuba Streets. It was decided to ask tho council to inspect these localities with a view to having them improved while the plant was iu tho district.

The chairman voiced tho genorai regret of tho committtee at the approaching loss of Mr. Brookie as a member through change of residence. The good wishes of the association would go with him. Replying, Mr. Brookie said he had derived a great amount of pleasure during his term of office and wished the association good luck in the future.

A motion of sympathy was passed to tho chairman (Mr. {Smith) in the illness of Mrs. {Smith, the hope being expressed that she would soon be restored to health again. It was hoped the association would turn out en masse at the annual general meeting to wish the winner of the Jamieson cup good luck. At the conclusion of the meeting a vote of appreciation for services rendered during the year was passed to the chairman and secretary. A vote of thanks was also passed to Mrs. and Mr. Evans for tho use of their residence for the meeting.
