Kimbolton
From Our Own Oorrernondent Young Farmer*’ Club. The Kimbolton-Kiwitfia Young Farmers* Club cricket team journej'ed to I’ohangina on Sunday last to play the Pohanglna Cricket Club. In spite of being out of practice, the local team surpassed Itself with both bat and ball, Messrs A. Clarke and R. Thevenard being the outstanding batsmen. The Kimbolton-Kiwlteam won the toss and knocked up a creditable score of 128. The Pobangina bowlers, Messrs J. llowell and E. McKenzie, accounted l'or most of the wickets. After lunch. J’ohangina batted and were nil out for 88, the only batsman to make a stand being G. Clapham. The most successful bowlers for Kimbollon were J. Waugh, 11, Brock and R. Thevenard. At the conclusion of afternoon tea, P. Thevenard, on behalf of the visitors, thanked the rolianglna Club for the hospitality extended, Mr L>. Turnbull suitably replying. Jt is hoped to play a return match at Kimbolton m the near future. The Kimbolton-Kiwltea team comprised Messrs I. Si. and li. Waugh, A. Clarke, R. and I*. Trevcnurd, H. Brock, C. Tapin, B. Couchnian, i’. Wells and K. Martin. A party of 25 North Taranaki young farmers visited Kimbolton on Saturday and inspected farms and places of inter cst in tho district. The party, under tii* leadership of Air G. A. Blake (Department of Agriculture, New Plymouth), is making a tour of the North Island, and two day* were spent in the Manawatu district. Leaving Palmerston North on Saturday morning, they proceeded to Mr H. B, Johnson s property at Cheltenham, where an inspection of the farm found much of interest. From there they motored to Kimbolton, where they were met by Messrs A. Lawson, 8. Lewis, R. and P. Thevenard, and were the guests of the local club at a luncheon at the Commercial Hotel. They then proceeded to Mr H. Harris’ farm, where some interesting trials with different types of clover were inspected. A good view of the Oroua valley and surrounding country was obtained on the return journey. The visitors ex pressed their appreciation of the local club's hospital in no uncertain manner. Defence Rifle Club. The final shoot for Mr K. W. Hansen's trophy was held on Saturday over the 60U yards range, W. Wotton proving the winner, with W. Edney second. Scores were as follow: W. Wotton (y), 27, 30—66; W. Edney (10), 25. 28—63; E. W. Beard (6). 28, 29—63; W. Hobbs (12) 21. 22—55; R. Kraiger (12), 20, 26—58. M.U.1.0.0.F. Bro. S. Lewis, N.G., presided over a good attendance of members and visitors on Tuesday evening last. One new member, Mr G. Murdoch, was initiated. The visitors were welcomed by the N.G. and accorded lodge honours. Bro. S. Lewis, on behalf of lodge members, presented Sis. and Bro. Kraiger, who were recently married, with small gift. Bro. Kraiger suitably responding. At thee onclusion of the meeting, a dance was held, music being provided by Mr M. Pearce and Miss D London. Competitions were von by Miss Johnson (Feilding), Mr A. Hendr*. and Mr P. McLean. Prizes for the Gay Gordons went to Miss M. McGlon-3 and Mr G. Murdoch.
