A five-loot grey shark Mas caught inside the mouth of the Waimakariri River oil Saturday. The big fish had apparently entered the river in quest of a meal of herrings. He was “bagged” by a member of the crew of the yacht Atom, and brought home in triumph to the boat houso at Kairaki. Sharks have previously been reported inside the Waimakariri River, particularly in the lower reaches near the concrete blocks, but they have been smaller in size than the fish which encountered the Atom.
