CAPTURE OF GUERILLA HEADQUARTERS United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Thursday, 10 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 6. The Peking correspondent of The Times says the Japanese claim to have , captured Wutaishan, the headquarters of the Chinese guerillas, who retreated, but are still fighting strongly. JAPANESE REPULSED HEAVY LOSSES IN HONAN OFFENSIVE WELLINGTON, Oct. 6. The Chinese Consul has received the following cablegram from Hankow:— “South of Shangcheng, in Honan there is sanguinary fighting. The enemy has launched general offensives one after the other, but all have been repulsed, the enemy suffering more than 10,000 losses. We captured over ten hills. “Realising that their attacks had been fruitless, the enemy removed troops elsewhere. “Our air force bombed Loshan anc inflicted heavy losses and frustrated the enemy’s retreat to Sinyang. “There is fierce fighting in the Juichang sector, south of the Yangtsfl river. In incessant bombardment oi our positions the Japanese used gai shells. It appears that the fighting will be centred on this sector. “During the two months’ fighting or the banks of the Yangtse river th« Japanese have sustained no fewer thar, 100.000 casualty* ” JAPAN WILL RETAIN HER MANDATES. NOT DERIVED FROM LEAGUE TOKIO, October 5. The Foreign Office spokesman stated that Japan would retain her mandates, despite the severance of relations with the League of Nations. The mandates were derived from the League but from the Five Power Conference.
