Aerial Bombings Increase

Apparent Attempt to Terrorise Catalonia BARCELONA AND VALENCIA SUFFER United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Thursday, 5.25 p.m. LONDON, October 6. The British United Press correspondent at Barcelona says the indiscriminate insurgent bombing of numerous towns has increased since the Munich agreement was reached, apparently in an attempt to terrorise Catalonia. Barcelona has been bombed nine times since October 4, while 10 Savoia planes dropped hundreds of bombs on Valencia, but there were no casualties. A deputation of Labour members of the House of Commons visited Lord Plymouth and urged that the Government convoy food-ships to Spain owing to renewed bombings and the serious food situation among the Republican uon-combatants. It also emphasised anxiety at the possibility of a settlement with Signor Mussolini at the expense of tho Republicans. LORD PERTH AND COUNT CIANO CONFER. ITALIAN EVACUATION OF SPAIN LONDON, Oct. 5. The British United Press’ Rome correspondent states that Lord Perth saw Count Ciano for the third time in three days. It is understood they discussed firstly, the date of the Italian evacuation of Spain, and whether advisers would withdraw with the infantry; and secondly, the date of Britain’s recognition of the Italian Empire in Ethiopia; and thirdly, tho time and method of operating the Anglo-Italian treaty. It is believed they were anxious to complete negotiations in order to secure tho approval of the Fascist Grand Council, which is meeting on October 7.
