FIVE-ROOMED HOUSE AND CONTENTS DESTROYED

A fire which brolij out just beforo 1 o’clock this morning in the residence of Mr. F. Edmonds, in Pahiatua street, almost completely destroyed tho fiveroomed houso and most of the contents. W'lien Mr. Edmonds, who is buyer for tho Manawatu Meat Company, was awakened by the flames, they had such a hold that ho and his wil’o had littlo chance of rescuing any of their effects, and by the time the brigade arrived there was no hope of effecting a save. Tho water supply m that area of the city ia extremely limited, and the brigade’s main efforts were directed to saving the outbuildings, in which a car

was garaged. At the late hour no information wa available regarding insurances.
