Milk Collection for Cheese Factories

SUGGESTION AT REXDALE Last Saturday at the annual meeting of the Rexdale Co-operative Dairy Co., the question of milk collection by lorries was brought up by the manager, Mr. L. B. Wards, who produced a num ber of details on the subject. He grouped the factory's suppliers inn, eight groups which lent themselves for easy collecting and would take only 4? miles per day or if the whey was to b* taken back to the farms it would be 100 miles per day. Another way would be by tank lorry, but he favoured the cans. The scheme would require two lorries, but he said he thought the local carriers would welcome the proposition as it meant collecting early in the morning. The chairman, Mr. T. H. Verry, said it would assist the farmer a great deal and would practically mean the saving of one man’s labour. Mr. Wards stated he thought the fac tory would be much bigger to-day if milk collection had been started several years ago. Mr. M. Lawson, the closest supplier, agreed that it would be a good idea. Mr. Lloyd pointed out that it was already done in the Waikato. The chairman said the main factor was the time it would save. It was agreed that the directors give consideration to a scheme for milk collection by lorry. Mr. Balph asked, had the factory anything to gain from itf The chairman explained it woulu probably be an advantage and increase the supply. The factory could produce more cheese without "increasing overhead.

It was agreed that the scheme woula probably bring the factory new suppliers and hold old ones.
