On holiday in Sydney is Miss E. McEwen, of Palmerston North. Mrs. H. Cowpcr, Mrs. E. Knight and tho Misses G. and L. Knight, Dannevirkc, are visiting Wellington. After visiting Christchurch Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Evans have returned to ralmcrston North. Miss C. H. Cameron, Batt street, is spending a few days in Wellington. Mrs. R. O. French, of Beaconsfield, accompanied by her son and daughter, Mr. R. and Miss M. French, sailed this week by the Tainui for a holiday visit to England. Miss A. Pickering, of Palmerston North, a member of the staff of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association was granted a fortnight’s leave to attend the Sydney Royal Show and left this week.. There has been quite an exodus from Palmerston North and Manawatu in the past week of residents on holiday bent across the Tasman. Among the most recent were Mr and Mrs C. L. Mowlem who left for Sydney on Tuesday intending to be away about three weeks. At the first meeting of St. Andrew’s Drama Circle on Wednesday, the president, Mrs. A. Mortland, took the opportunity of making a small presentation oil behalf of tho members to Miss Thompson, the retiring secretary. Asking Miss Thompson’s acceptance of a book of plays, Mrs. Mortland expressed appreciation of all she had done for the circle in the past three years. Miss Thompson briefly returned thanks. “Another old parishioner was laid to rest on Friday, March 11, in the Kelvin Grove cemetery,’’ states All, Saints’ Parish Magazine. “This was Mrs. Gascoigne, who had reached the ripe old age of S'r, and lived with her husband and her daughter, Mrs. Pees, in College street. For many years Mr. and Mrs. Gascoigne had their home in Bunnythorpo, and were a tower of strength to tho Church in that district. Mrs. Gascoigne was one of those splendid churchwomen who brought up her children to attend church, and was active in providing for its upkeep, and the giving of her personal service. For the last ten years she had been blind, but cm dured her affliction with true Christian fortitude. To her aged husband and daughter we extend our deepest sympathy.’’
