Ceremony in a Setting Of Dahlias

STUART—SHAILER. St. Paul’s Methodist Church was the scene of a pretty wedding on Saturday last when Muriel Constance, only daughter of Mr and Mrs A. J. Shailer, of Albert street, Palmerston North, was married to Frederick Arthur Stuart, son of Mrs. Jefferies and the late Mr. Stuart, R.N., of Gosport, England. - Tho church had been beautifully decorated with pink dahlias by members of tho Girls* Biblo Class, Rev. M.A. McDowell conducting the ceremony and Mr. A. Tregurtha playing the wedding music. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a becoming gown of cream satin the bodice rucked in front and finished , with tiny satin buttons and loops which continued on to the Vneck reveres. A true lover’s knot of satin and faggoting trimmed the back of the neck, while the sleeves which had a wide-shouldered effect came to a point over the hands and had tiny buttons from the elbows to the wrists. The full skirt fell to form a graceful train. Her embroidered veil, which had been sent out from England by the bridegroom’s mother, was caught to her head with a halo of tulle and orange blossom and fell in soft folds to form a second train. She carried a lovely bouquet composed of white roses, carnations, dahlias and maidenhair fern with satin streamers.

In attendance as bridesmaids were Miss Gwen Williams and Miss Amy Baker, who were similarly attired in dainty frocks of blue lace over satin beaute made in redingote stylo with V necks and Medici collars, the bodices fastened to the waist with tiny satin buttons and loops, the waist line finished with blue velvet ribbon fastened in front with a bow. Haloes of silver leaves were worn and they carried bouquets of pink dahlias, roses, hydrangeas and maidenhair fern with blue satin streamers. Mr Lewis Henderson supported the bridegroom as best man and Mr Horace Shailer, brother of the bride, was groomsman. During the signing of the register Miss Ena Louden sang, “Just For Today,*- ’ the'bridal party remaining for the first verse before proceeding to the vestry. As the bride and bridegroom left the church Charlie Nairn presented the bride with a floral borse-shoe. The reception following was held, at the residence of tho bride’s parents, Mr and Mrs Shailer receiving their guests, the latter wearing a frock of navy crepe relieved with white, and finished at the neck with a white rose, also navy hat her posy being of autumn tints. Mr. A. G. Roe was toast-master and proposed the toast to the happy couple. Mr D. Collis w r as entrusted with the toast to the bridesmaids and Mr J. Larsen with that of the parents of the bride and mother of the groom. Tho handsome cake which had been made by the bride, was cut with due ceremony and congratulatory tclegroms from far and near were read. When Mr and Mrs Stuart left later on their honeymoon, the bride appeared for travelling in a navy and white pinstriped tailored suit with pink blouse, navy hat and accessories to nuiNlv Mr and Mrs Stuart were the recipients of many handsome tokens of esteem and numerous cheques. Prior to her marriage Miss Shailer vas the guest at several gift parties and on Saturday, March 19th, she was honoured by Mrs Kendall and Miss Emma Jones at the Methodist Parsonage, at a pleasant gift afternoon. Games and competitions and a dainty afternoon tea made the afternoon pass all too quickly and after Miss Shailer had unwrapped her gifts she returned thanks to her hostesses and Mrs McDowell for so kindly lending her home.

On Monday,-March 28, the bride-to-Le was the guest of her bridesmaids, Misses Gwen Whitehead and Amy Bakei, at the residence of Mrs H. Whitehead, at a kitchen and pantry tea. About 30 guests enjoyed themselves with games and competitions and a collection of shells and curios from the Solomon Islands provided much interest. Miss Shailer was the recipient of a novel bouquet of clothespegs, washing powder and other washhouse necessities, made by Mrs Shailer.
