Old Boys Football Club
ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Feilding Old Boys Rugby Football Club was held last eveniug, Mr. D. Whisker, (president) presiding over a large attendance of members. Moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, Mr. Whisker reviewed the financial affairs of the club, which were in a very satisfactory condition. He referred to the success of the club’s annual ball. In the matter of subscriptions, those collected from juniors and thirds would put the seniors to shame, and he hoped that players would appreciate their obligations under this heading. Mr. J. Finlay, secretary, agreed that some new system was required for the collection of subscriptions, as the senior payments were most disappointing. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr. L. J. Wild; president, Mr. J. G. Eliott; vice-presidenrs, Messrs. D. Whisker, D. C. Oullinane, H. G. Stewart, W. E. Baker, J. S. Fowler, C. On taking the chair, Mr. Eliott thanked members for his election and paid a tribute to the work of Mr. Whisker. He wished the club every success during the approaching season (applause). In a discussion on subscriptions, it was pointed out by Mr. Eliott that insurance did not operate unless a member was financial, and he hoped that members would understand the position and take steps to safeguard their inter ests. It was agreed to nominate three teams for the competitions—a senior, junior and a third grade team. “Anyone know anything about the Feilding Football Executive?” asked Mr. Finlay, “because I have a few suggestions to make regarding the funds in hand. ’ ’ Mr. Whisker said that he understood that provision was to be made for improvements to the gymnasium by boarding up the interior walls and the installation of a hot water supply. This work would not exhaust the funds available and it was not desirable to use up all the money as it was considered necessary for emergencies. Mr. Finlay suggested that it would be a good idea to install a scrum machine in the gymnasium. Mr. J. Dewe supported the idea, and it was agreed to recommend the Football Executive to take up the matter. It was agreed to represent the need for improving the lighting in the gymnasium and the protection of the lights. In a further discussion on the activities of the Feilding Football Executive, the meeting, while appreciating the work done, resolved to ask for information as to the constitution of the body and also for a copy of the rules. The meeting recorded its thanks to those who had made donations to the club’s funds, to the ladies, the club’s honorary officials and to the Press.
