Pigs, Poultry and Produce

The Dominion Auctioneering Company, Palmerston North, reports that at their weekly market held on Thursday a capacity yarding of pigs came forward with prices showing a weakening tendency for weaners, but larger pigs being in good demand. There was a considerable improvement in the price of poultry, especially in heavier breeds. Choice 8.0. hens realised from 3s to 3s 9d each. Vegetables are in short supply, there being a very keen demand for all lines. Quotations: — Pigs: B’est weaners, 9s to lls each: small and backward, from 4s to 6s each; slips, from 10s to 15s each; stores, from 12s to £1 each; porkers, from 30s 6d to 36s each. Poultry; Best W.L. liens, from 3s Gd to 4s Gd per pair; 8.0. hens, best, from 6s to 7s Id per pair; heavy cockerels, from 6s to 7s 6d per pair; light cocker--els, from 2s to 4s per pair; ducks, from 4s to 6s 4d per pair; pullets, from 4s to 6s 5d each. Produce: Peaches, best dessert from 4s to 7s 6d per case; cooking peaches, from 3s to 5s per case; plums, from 3s to 6s 9d per case; tomatoes, from 2s to 4s per case; apples, Cox's Orange, Pippin from 3s 3d to ss" 6d per bushel, cookers from 3s to 4s 6d per bushel; pears, from 3s to 5s per half case; cucumbers, from 3s to 3s 6d per case; beans, from 4s to 6s per bag; peas, from 24d to 31d per lb.; lettuce, from 7s to 9s 6d per case; cauliflowers, from 8s to 12s 6d per sack; cabbages, from 6s. to ,15s per sack; parsnips, from 5s to 10s per sack; marrows, from Is Cd to 2s 6d per case.
