Parly in Esplanade

ST. ANDREW’S LADIES’ GUILD The cool greenness of the Esplanade made a pleasant spot for a party held by St. Andrew's Ladies' Guild yesterday afternoon. The gathering was essentially a social one, and a large number of members enjoyed themselves, Rev. and Mrs. J. Hubbard also being present. Native and exotic shrubs made a sheltering background for the picnic afternoon tea, which was served by the ladies. The afternoon passed all too quickly with novelty races and competitions in charge of Mrs. M. Aitchison, the president. A thread-the-needle race was won by Mrs. P. Campbell; egg-and-spoon, Mrs. E, B. Campbell I, Mrs. M. E. Koberstein 2; skipping competition, Mrs. V/. Allan; children's race, Graham and Margaret Hubbard. At the conclusion of the gathering, Mr. Hubbard said he was glad that the Ladies' Guild had resumed their activities. The small organisations of the church were very big factors getting in touch with various members, who, perhaps, would not otherwise meet, and the guild was one of the organisations which did much to foster the spirit of friendship and co-operation. It was a happy thought on the part of the guild to hold this, the first meeting of the year, in the wide, open spaces, where one could gain inspiration from Nature and the beautiful handiwork of God. Mr. Hubbard wished the guild as happy and prosperous a new year as it had enjoyed in the past.
