If Petrol Tax Means Good Roads

MOTORISTS SHOULD BE PLEASED TO PAY That if motorists want good roads they should not complain at paying a petrol tax, was the general opinion of members of the Automobile Association (Manawatu) executive last evening. The president (Mr. AY. H. Brown) said that in the last 12 months he bad been over every main highway in the North Island and he was convinced that the move to provide good roads had really only just begun. There wero thousands of miles still little better than river beds. What motorists should protest at was the drafting of certain portions of the petrol tax into the Consolidated Fund.

The discussion arose when the executive was advised that the youth Island Motor Union had approved the suggestion that associations affix on all envelopes used by them, a sticker drawing attention to the amount of petrol tax per gallon paid by motorists. The meeting found no approval of the idea.
