WAIPUKURAU, Feb. 16. 1 To step unhurt from a completely wrecked motor-car after it nad crashed through the rails of a bridge near Waipukurau in the early hour,* of this morning was the fortunate experience of Mr Harold Touhy, of Woodvillc. A beam from the bridge pierced the front radiator of the car and came through the dashboard where ..he drive” was sitting and actually tore his coat The car, a small Singer, crashed through the railings of a one-way bridge over the Marakeke stream on the ir.iin road from Waipukurau to Takapau about 3 o’clock this morning and came to rest at the water’s edge. The driver managed to get clear of the car and then waited beside the road to hail any motorist who might pass. As none came along after an hour ha walked some distance to the nearest house and telephoned the Waipukurau police. The car was a complete wreck. The body work was crumpled ana smashed in a number of places by the wood work of the bridge, part of which was carried away in the car’s crash. ’The cause of the accident is unknown.
