Lincense Cancelled for Period of Seven Years
NEGLIGENT DRIVING CHARGE Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. A verdict of guilty, with a strong recommendation to mercy, was returned by the jury in the Supreme Court at Wellington to-day in a case in which Violet Helen Maud Taylor, single, aged 22, was charged with negligent driving causing death. The Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, in passing sentence, said he had no hesitation in saying he thought the verdict was undoubtedly right. Prisoner’s license would be suspended, and she would be disqualified I from taking out another for a period of seven years. “I don’t think it necesIsary to impose any fino or make any further order," said his Honour. The prosecution arose from an accident on Broadway, Miramar, on November 12, when Miss Kathleen Bensley Thornhill, who was crossing the street, was knocked down by a motor-car driver by prisoner. Miss Thornhill died in the hospital three days later.
