It is understood that the WanganuiPalmerston North feeder airline servict will not be continued after the expiry date of the temporary licence, February 20, though it is possible that Union Airways will recommence the service at a later date. For the lour and a-half weeks following January JO, 56 passengers travelled from wunganui to Palmerston North and 14 from Palmerston North. In the month from the commencement of the service a total of 3071 letters arrived at or were despatched from Wanganui. AIRPORT FOR AUCKLAND RECOMMENDATIONS BY COMMITTEE AUCKLAND, Last Night. Two areas as possible sites for tue development of an airport to serve the city of Auckland are suggested by a special committee of investigation which was set up by the Minister of Defence (Hon. F. Jones) towards tho end of last year at the request of the Auckland City Council. The committee appointed by the Minister of Mr. J. Wood, engineer-in-chief of the Public Works Department, as chairman, Group Captain lion. R. A. Cohcraue and Group Captain T. M. Wilkes. The committee made recommendations iu respect of two areas and gave tentative estimates of the cost of development. One of these sites was au area on the southern shore of the upper reaches of the Manukau harbour. Here it was proposed that an urea of 413 acres should be reclaimed by the construction of a riug embankment, the cost with the development of a landing field being estimated at £164,000. The other proposal contemplated the reclamation iu the same manner of au area of 509 acres botweeu Point Chevalier peninsula and Jierne Bay. i’Lis scheme involved au initial outlay of £129,000.
