Forthcoming Band Contest

LADIES’ COMMITTEE ARRANGE ENTERTAINMENT

Arrangements were put in train on Monday afternoon at a meeting of the ladies of the band contest committee to entertain the visiting bandsmen and their wives. The Mayoress, Mrs A. E. Mansford presided over a large attendance, and associated with her were i*ie joint secretaries (Mrs W. F. Field and Miss Matheson), and Mr C. V. Day, secretary of the general committee.

The conveners of the various subcommittees presented reports, and it was agreed that good progress had been made. The proposal to entertain the visiting bandsmen to afternoon tea at the Showgrounds on the opening day of the contest had met wit l, generous support, a number of contributions and cash donations having been made to the secretaries.

It was arranged that the wives of the visiting bandsmen be taken for a drive to Massey College, Bledisloe Park and the Esplanade on one day*, and on another afternoon a visit would bo made to Mr and Mrs R. Tanner’s residene at Karere, after which afternoon tea would be provided. It was left to Mr Day and Mrs Field to arrange for transport for these outings. An appeal for private cars met with a fair response. Mrs K. Dean offered to make badges for the committe. The floral decorations in connection with the tea tables are to be carried out by the gardening circle of the Townswomen ’s Guild.

An invitation was received from tne wives of the Salvation Army bandsmen and Home League members, to the Mayoress and the visiting bandsmen’s wives to an afternoon gathering in the Salvation Army Citadel. It was decided to write thanking these ladie3 and expressing regret that, owing to other arrangements having been made for that day, it was impossible to accept.
