(From Our Own Correspondent) Control of Rabbits and Noxious Weeds. Mr B. G. Gower (chairman) presided over the monthly. meeting of tho Mana- ! watu Rabbit Board. The Board's inspector (Mr D. It. Barron) submitted a report on the conditions of the various areas In the Board's district from a general I point of view. "Area 1: Bounded by Shan- ! uon-liimatangi and Himatangi-Ranglotu road, Manawaut Rlver-Foxton roads. The clear country is in good order at present as regards rabbits. Pollard poisoning is required on several of the cover areas, of which there Is a large amount. This is the main urea for ragwort but it is definitely less this year. Other noxious weeds ! clearing has been carried out to a fair extent. Area 2: Bounded by Himatangiltangii'iu highway, Sanson road, Taikorea road and Main Drain road. The clear country is in very fair order as regards rabbits; the cove country, which is of a greater extent than Area 1. requires pollard poisoning where possible. As far as ragwort Is concerned this urea ranks second in quantity to Area 1. A small amount of clearing of other noxious weeds has been done. Area 3: Bounded by Sanson road, Taikorea road, Kongo tea siding road, Milners line and Cooper's line. There is a veiy small area of cover country in this area with the result that rabbits are very easy to Ifcpep under control and it is in good order. Very little ragwort is in this portion of the district and presents no difficulty in being kept down. Other noxious weeds have been cleared, area 4: Between Beach road, coast line, Koputarla and Foxtou-Hiniatangi roads. This area consists mostly of coyer coun- | try and sandhills witli only a small I amount of clear land. Rabbits have been showing up i i this area and fumigation wherever jiossibie nus been carried out. Pollard poisoning is necessary on the j cover areas at present. Very little ragwort has been noted. Area 5: Bounded by Hoputaroa road, main isauson road. Coast ta I area which included the forestry Decountry which, from a rabbit point of view is in good order. Pollard poisoning is necessary in tho cover areas. Ragwort 1s iu evidence to only a very small extent. Other noxious weeds have been cleared, luaimy blackberry on roadlines. Area 0: Bounded by Campion s line, Rangltikci river to Bulls bridge and main froad. This area, apart from tho riverbed I portion, is all clear country and very easy i to keep clear of the pest and is in good I order. The riverbed area can be dealt I with only by poisoning. There is very little ragwort in this part of the district. I Summing up the different areas 1 would say that from a rabbit point of view, with tlie exception of some cover area, the district is in good order for this time of the year,” concluded the Inspector. A deputation comprising Messrs. R. Wilson and A. K. Drew waited on the Board with a view to ascertaining its attitude in regard to tho proposed amalga- | mation of local bodies. The mutter was dealt with in committee and it was finally decided to appoint Trustees Gower and Craig us delegates to represent the Board at a conference of all local bodies concerneed which is to be convened by the | Manawatu County Council. Plunket Soociety. | Mrs W. Trueman (president) presided over tho monthly meeting of tho Foxton Plunket Society. The secretary was instructed to write to the McCarthy Trust applying lor tho usual donation. It was decided to hold a shop-day on the first Saturday in March A discussion ensued regarding the digging and planting of the section and this matter was left in the hands of Mr D. Christie, for attention, it was reported that the weighing machine J in Mr T. Crotty's shop lielded 5/- for the last three months. Personal. Miss T. Ilusaey, who recently returned | from a holiday visit to Australia, is now staying with her parents, Mr and Mrs H. I Hussey, of Coley street. I Mr A. K. Maidens, who has been on annual leave, has returned to Foxton. I Mr W. J. Newth, of Foxton, will bo associated with the Palmerston Nortth Citizens' Silver Band as soprano cornetlst (luring the visit to Nelson this week for the band contest.
