(From Our Own Correspondent) Sandon Sports to Ije Held A general meeting of the Sandon Sports Club was held on Thursday, when Mr C. K. Eglinton presided In the unavoidable absence of the president, Mr A. K. Drew. Other members present were Messrs D. C. Sanson, K. M. Pearce. R. Oppatt, P. Pearce. W. Drummond, J. W. Beattie and the secretary, Mr S. JU Orr. Mr Drew attended later In the evening. Before the commencement of the businss the chairman referred to the great loss suffered by the Henson family in the death of Mrs W. 11. Henson. Members stood a moment as a mark of respect. Mr Eglinton extended a hearty welcome to the new headmaster, Mr J. W. Beattie, and to Mr W. Drummond. It was decided that the secretary advertise the date of every general meeting. The quotation of Messrs. 11. L. Young was accepted for printing the Pagan-lleusou Shield Certificates. A letter was received from Miss Aileen Nix. of Kopane, stating that she had been the winner of tho girls’ champion of champions race during the past two years and greatly appreciated her trophies. As she would not be a competitor this year Miss Nix stated that she would very much like to donate the trophy for this year's meeting. The offer was accepted, members stating that the offer was a very fine gesture and typified the fine sporting qualities of the girl. A letter was received from Mr D. G. Warner, head teacher, Kopane, suggesting that the sports be abandoned this year and setting out his reason's for this step. Mr Warner stated m his communication that the lateness of opening the schools may make matters difficult, especially for new teachers, and that some parents may not allow their children to mix In u sports gathering. A full discussion ensued on the points raised, but members felt that If the sports were abandoned this year It would do more harm than good. It was finally decided that a committee be set up to visit all the schools soon after they are opened and obtain an expression of opinion from the headmasters and the children. Owing to the lateness In the opening date of the schools It was decided to hold the sports on March 20 and not March 13 as previously decided. The question of appointing of officials tvas held over to the next meeting of the club, which is to bo held on March 3. The secretary. Mr K. L. Orr. reported that Mr K. Dwyer had offered to donate a guinea, which Is to be used for two trophies in the Highland dancing section The president, on behalf of the club, expressed appreciation of Mr Dwyer’s generous action. A letter Is to be sent to Mrs: J. K. Ilornblow expressing the club’s regret at the Illness of Mr J. K. Ilornblow. According to a nature-writer, frogs have a better hearing than most pcoplo imagine.
