Domain Board to Take Control of Puketitiri Bush
PRELIMINARY MEETING (Special to "Times")HASTINGS, Feb. 15. Tho formation of a domain board to take over tho control of the area of bush and grassland at Puketitiri donated as a public reservo by Mr and Airs F. Hutchinson, of Rissington, is practically decided upon, stops having been taken for the gazetting of the proposed hoard. Tho personnel of the board has actually been selected. The members will be Airs Hutchinson, Messrs E. L. Cullen, ALP., F. It. Burnley, Commissioner of Crown Lands, Absolum, junr., G. Turner, of Puketitiri, F. E. Smith, of Hastings, and Dr. A. G. Clark, of Napier. A visit was mode recently to the area concerned and a thorough inspection was made, tentative arrangements for its preservation and safeguard being discussed. It was announced that the offer by Air and Mrs Hutchinson had been accepted by tho Government arid the property transferred. Containing approximately 80 acres of virgin bush and grasslands to tho extent of 200 acres, tho gilt is a magnificent one-, and in time the area should bo ono of the outstanding scenic reserves in tho district. It is easy of access lo the public, for tho fanning urea hounds the main Napier Puketitiri road and also a byroad. Some conception of tho vuiuo of tho property can ho gleaned from tho fact that tho timber alone in tho bush block would bo worth several thousands of pounds in royalties. Work is £o be undertaken in tho very near future which will result in the safeguarding of the bush and the utilisation of the open grasslands, the; revenue from which, it is proposed, will be used for tho development o* 1 *■' *
