Kotahitanga Group Meets at Bulls
LARGE ATTENDANCE AT HALFYEARLY RALLY. Institutes in tho Kotahitanga group assembled at Bulls yesterday for the half-yearly rally when there was an excellent attendance from all tho institutes in tho group, namely Ohakca, Bulls, Parewanui, Marton Junction, Sanson, Halcombe and Stanway. Mrs. Gregoric (Marton) was in tho chair, Mrs. A. K. Drew (convener) being associated -with her. Prior to entering upon tho programme Mrs. Gregorio made feeling reference to the passing of Mrs. J. Bibby, one of tlio pioneers of the New Zealand Women’s Institutes who had composed the words of “Comrades and Friends," a motion of sympathy with the relatives being passed iu the usual way. The chairman extended a cordial welcome to thoso present and expressed appreciation of the attendance of tho president of the federation, who was tho speaker for the afternooh. Grateful appreciation was conveyed from tho Palmerston North Hospital Women’s Auxiliary for gifts of baby singlets from the group. Mrs. Marumaru (Bulls) was nominated as convenor, vice Mrs. Drew, who did not seek re-election, and Mrs. E. Bowater (Sanson) was elected chairman for the next group rally which is to bo held at Halcombo on August 12. There were excellent entries in tho competitions, Mrs. A. J. Will (Rongotea) acting us jildgo of the cookery and Mrs. W. J. Croucher (Palmerston North) for sewing. Results were as follow: Sponge sandwich, Mrs. J. Fagan 1, Mrs. M- Anderson 2, Mrs. S. Klatt 3; shortbread, Mrs. H. Matthews 1, Mrs. L. V. Homes 2, Mrs. M. Homes 3; d'oyleys, Miss N. Masters 1, Miss E. Fergusson 2, Mrs. Frauko 3. Competitions for next group meeting will be for an eggless fruit cake and ginger nuts, also a child’s knitted petticoat. Mrs. Drew ’a offer of a trophy for a child’s flannel petticoat was gratefully accepted. Ohakea presented tho plnyette “Wanted, a Cook," which was warmly received as were vocal solos by Mrs. Curtis, of Halcombe, and a “sailor’s hornpipe" by Miss Twigg, of Marton Junction, who both responded to encores. Delicious afternoon tea was provided by Bulls aud Purcwanui members, tho hostess institutes, after which a travel talk by Miss Grant was followod with interest, and tho meeting terminated with the usual exchange of thanks to all those concerned with the meeting.
