Willard Home Board Commences New Year

MANY POINTS DISCUSSED. Mrs E. A. Collins presided at the first monthly meeting for the year of the Willard Home Board held in tho St. Andrew’s Infant Sunday School room yesterday afternoon. Also presont were Mesdames F. J. Nathan, C. F. Spooner, C. Grieg, J. A. McLeavey, K. McDonald, D. J. Lovelock, E. B. Jennings, R. Fort, R. A. Tims, A. W. Just, J. W. McConnon, E. Birdsall (secretary), and Miss McLagan. Apologies were received from Meadames A, E. Andrews, E. C. Barnett, T. R. Hodder, and D. Watson. A letter was received from Mrs G. H. Bennett tendering her resignation as a member of the board. It was decided to accept Mrs Bennett's resignation with regret but to make her a lifemember of the board. The resignation of Mrs C. F. Spooner was also accepted with regret and she, too, was elected a life-member. Appreciation of tho splendid work done by these ladies in tho past is to be placod on rocord. Mrs W. B. Cameron was nominated to fill one of the three vacancies oh the board caused by resignations. The financial statement presented by Mrs Birdsall was received and the accounts passed for payment. Mesdames Spooner and Just will be official visitors to the home during the coming month. Matron’s Report. The matron (Miss E. Anderson) iu her first report for 1937 extended best wishes for a very happy and prosperous New Year to all members of the board The children had enjoyed good health during December and January having returned home on February 10 after a very happy six weeks’ at Flimmerton. The children appreciated the extra two weeks’ there. Christmas Day was a very happy time iu tho home, tho next excitement being getting ready for tno beach. Owing to the epidemic the usual picnie into Wellington was cancelled but the children had been promised their picnic the first fine Saturday. The elder children were all very grateful for their Christmas presents and several of them were visitors to Flimmerton. Grateful thunks wero extended to all who had assisted with transport to and from the Railway Station, to Mr D. Watson especially for so kindly conveying goods and meeting the children on their return. Thanks wero also duo to all who sent duwn fruit and vegetables, to Mrs Birdsall, who sent down meat, vegetables, etc., twice weekly, and to a friend who sent meat pies down three

times. Matters at the home were generally in a satisfactory condition. A Birthday Dinner. Wearing a distinctive frock of salmon pink lame and black satin, Mrs W Jacobs was hostess to a few friends at a jolly dinner party on Saturday last held at the Majestic Hotel. As the function was given m honour of a birthday felicitations were enthusiastically offered by the assembled guests.
