Auckland Woman Who Always Bought a Ticket WINDFALL EXTREMELY WELCOME Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. It was a married woman and a regular purchaser of art union tickets who won the first prize of £2OOO in . tho ‘‘Win-A-Lot” draw, Mrs. Alex (Sandy) Spence, of Claude road, Epsom. Although she heard the result announced over the radio and knew on Monday night that she was the lucky ticket holder, her identity remained a secret except among a few intimate friends until to-night.
“My husband and I have experienced our share of bad luck during the depression, but our luck seems to have changed, and 1 may say our little windfall is extremely welcome,” Mrs. Spence told a reporter. “I always have a ticket in every art union and havo not missed buying one for years, because, when passing ticket sellers, I have thought 1 might be walking away from £2OOO. Ary husband also buys tickets regularly, but neither of us has ever won so much as one of the smallest prizes in the past. “On the Tuesday before the art uniou closed,” Airs. Speuce continued, "I was in town to visit the dentist, and afterwards, while I was still suffering considerable pain from my teeth, I decided to buy a ticket from a Quoen street seller. He wished me luck, and I said I hoped I would have it. When I heard the result, I was overjoyed, although my husband said there -night be dozens of people in New Zealand W’th tho same nom-dc-plume. Air. and Airs. Spence, who have no family, said they had made no pla-ia for tho immediate future. Mr. Spe.ice, who is a barman, said he had been grateful to get work and intended to continue in his occupation.
