From Our Own Correspondent. Personal and General. The friends of Mr. and Mrs. TV. Ansin will be pleased to hear their son Leon is home from hospital. The injured leg is progressing satisfactorily, though the boy will be forced to use crutches for a time. Mrs. P. Hansen has returned from a holiday spent in Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. P. Pedersen are home again after spending a week at Tangimoana. The iinal meeting of the school committee before the householders' meeting was held on March 25. There were present Messrs J J. Hume (chairman), P. Hanses (hon. secretary), W. E. Thomas, and G Firth. Apology for absence was received from Mr. J. PI. Bennett. The business was mainly to wind up affairs in connection with the recent school picnic. The matter of obtaining winter firing was left to tlie incoming committee. A letter ot apology for his absence from the school picnic was received from Mr. C. L. Hunter. M.P. , , The Women’s Institute drama c rcle held its meeting on Wednesday last. There was a fair attendance and a threeact play, “Dangerous Corner," by Priestly, was. read. „ „ . fi Wednesday's stormy weather caught several paddocks of clover and lucerne hay out. Much ensilage has been made from the surplus grass and maize while somo farmers have ventured with second cuts of liay. Hay-making has been precarious with the unsettled weather throughout the summer. Many farmers who fatten a few lambs find the lambs are making little progress. Feed is very plentiful, but the nutriment is absent, due no doubt, to the lack of warmth. Gardens suffered much damage from Wednesday s gale. With the amount of sappy growth this season, all tall growing subjects were very susceptible to damage by wind. Potato crops are not expected to be very good this season. The main crops are mostly still in the ground, but those already dug are very, .disappointing, .The,
enforced lato planting owing to th© wet spring lias curtailed th© size of the potatoes and the wet summer has been responsible for much blight.
