Yesterday morning If cock and 21 hen pheasant birds wero liberated in tho Makairo, Konini, and Makomako districts. Mr A. Morgan, president of the Pahiatua sub-committee of the Acclimatisation Society, informed the “Times” representative yesterday that a liberation is made annually and that tho birds released in the above districts was not the year’s quota. After the shooting season, he said a further batch of pheasants would be sent him from the acclimatisations game farm at Paraparaumu. The next luncheon address to be delivered under tho auspices . of . the Pahiatua Progressive Association is W be on ‘ ‘ Guaranteed Prices’ ’ and will be delivered by Mr P. Bobinson, M.P. for Masterton. At Thursday evening s meeting of the Pahiatua Progressive Association, the president, Mr S. K. Siddells, said that ho had the privilege of listening to Mr Bobinson, who was a most fluent speaker whose knowledge of his subjject would be an enlightenment to the members of tho association. No definite date has yet been fixed for tho luncheon address.
The combined Bush school sports which were to have been held yesterday at Mangatainoka were postponed until Monday next on account of the unsuitable weather conditions prevailing. Due to a transposition the order for the two last events on both days of the Pahiatua Racing Club’s meeting does not appear correctly in the acceptances as published and on Tuesday the final event will be the Makuri Handicap 1 which will be proceeded by the Eketahuna Handicap.
