TO MEET CENTRE’S GROWING NEEDS. When the need for more police for Palmerston North was mentioned at a recent meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, the president (Mr A. J. Graham) reported that advice to hand was to the effect that further appointments to tLe force were being made. Seen yesterday by the “Times,” Police Inspector J. Cummings stated that the arrival on Saturday of Constable C. H. Turnbull from Blenheim, was the first step towards an augmented staff and while be had had no definite official advice as to other transfers to this centre, more constables were to be sent hero in the near future.
