A dance was held iu the Balnesse schoolroom on Saturday evening in aid of tho school funds. There was a good attendance, including visitors from the surrounding district. Bainesso dances are always popular with the public and this one proved no exception to the rule. Bright dance music was supplied by Hr M. Creighton and extras were played by Mr N. Berndston. A competition for a box of tea was won by Mrs S. Stanbra. Mr C. Buchanan was M.C. The supper was in the capablo hands of the ladies’ committee.

Members of the Women’s Institute held their usual monthly meeting oil Wednesday, when Miss Hazel Johnston, Sarah Anne Rhodes Scholarship lecturer from Massey College, will give a talk and demonstration, illustrated with lantern slides, oil dress or furnishing. This lecturer is being keenly anticipated and a large attendance is assured. The competition will be for the best arranged bowl of flowers. There will also bo a plant exchange.

That great interest is being taken in the forthcoming general election, was evinced by tho large crowd present at ARAL 11. Oram’s meeting on Friday night. Mr Hornblow’s recent meeting was also well attended. Colonel Closey, the Douglas Credit candidate, will place Ills views before the local public on Wednesday night next. Air L. Hunter, the Labour candidate, is scheduled to address the electors on November 3. Personal.

Air Lionel Purdom has left on a health recruiting holiday, to be spent in the South Island.
