Mi- and Mrs Gordon Stark are holidaying In Wellington. Mr T. Derby is Dio guest of Mr J. Spring. Tho death occurred on Tuesday of Mrs E. M. J. Cadwallader, relict of tho late Mr W. A. Cadwallader, at tho age of ,6b years. Mrs Cadwallader suffered a stroke some time ago, and her death was not altogether unexpected. A burial service conducted by itev. H. Watson, was hold in the Nireaha Church on Thursday. The pall bearers were Messrs M. Spring, A. Spring, C. Goss, IX. Nordell, C. W. Tlercock and 11. Daniels. Tho Interment took place at Clareville. Two daughters, Mrs Wilkie and Mrs It. Daniels, and one son, Mr L. Cadwallader, are left to mourn their loss, and have the sympathy of a large Circle of friends.

General. A rather striking example of animal life was in evidence ln the district recently when a cat was found to bo mothering a small rabbit. Vivo of a family of six kittens were destroyed and the mother cat, nut to bo outdone, decided to adopt a baby rabbit, and consequently the kitten and tho labbit are fouiid to be living on the most amiable terms. An extremely rare animal, a white hare, was recently shot hi tho Putara district by Mr E. Aitchison. For about amonth parties had made attempts to secure it, but it proved very timid, and many fruitless chases resulted. The animal iias been forwarded to a taxidermist for stuffing purposes and should make a rare "curio. Black rabbits are fairly common in most districts, but black or white hares arc seldom seen.

Ping Pong. Tile final ping pong- evening for the season was well attended and a ladies’ and men’s handicap singles tourney was played. The winners were Miss P. Prysdale and Mr D. Payne. Although the attendances this season have not been of the best, many pleasant evenings have been enjoyed, and it is hoped that next season will bring a revival of interest in this popular winter game. Following were the results of the, singles tournament: —

Prysdalo beat Mrs Terry 21—16, 2i—lS; Mrs Ilercock beat Mrs Stewart 21—19, 22 2a Final: Miss P. Drysdale beat Mrs Hcrook 21—16, 21—17.

Lawrence 21—19, 11—21, 21—19. Rifle Shooting.

The Tararua Rifle Club fired Us first aggregate shoot of Die seuson on Saturday. Conditions were almost ideal, allowing many to put on big scores. Tho club is now using ammunition of recent make, and general satisfaction is the result. A trophy was also l'or competition and Rilleman C. Rasmussen won this after shooting off with O. Sigvertsen and R. Thomason. Rifleman C. Sigvertsen is displaying consistent form tills season, his effort of 95 off the rifle being by far the best gun score. Following wero the results of the day’s shooting, the ranges being 360 and 500 yards with handicap limit 55:
