prom Our Own Correspondent, Concert and Dance.
Tiv3 ilaloombe-Kakariki branch of the AV.D.P.U. held an enjoyable concert and dance on Friday .evening, there being a fair The concert items which were much appreciated were; Song, Mrs Curtis; tap dance, Miss C. Rogers; song, Airs Aynesley; song, Mr urtis. A competition was held at this stage, tho winners being Mr Ctirtls and Mrs Colquhoun. The second half of the programme was provided by the Stanway nigger minstrels under the guidance of Massa Johnson (Air S. G. Still). Tlie darkies kept the audience thoroughly happy for a full hour with songs, choruses and local hits. The songs rendered were: "Polly AVolly Doodle," whole party; "Wagon Wheels,” S. G. Still; "Climbin' up du Goden Stairs,’’ K. Christian; “Murray Moon," B. Guy; "Did Bustic Bridge," Master Bobin Turner; a yodelling song. S. and K. Marshall; "Oh, Dem Golden Slippers," G. Whiteman; "Ole Faithful," P. Corliss and S. G. Still; "Sally Horner,’ J. Maefarlane; "Old Kentucky Homo,’ whole party; "Gwine Baca to Dixie," JR Christian and B. Guy; "Carry Mo Back to Olu Virgilmy,” S. Marshall; "Home on tho Range,'' O. Whiteman; “Poor old Joe," Master W. Christian; "Flying TraI jpeze,” S. G. Still, E. Christian, B. Guy and S. Marshall; "This is the liour'-'anck "Show Ale the Way to Go. Home;" whole parly. Tho accompanist was Mr C. Caliingham. At tile conclusion of the concert, tho president, .Mrs Aj'nesley, thanked All thoso who had contributed to the suc’cess of tlie evening. Following supper a'professional orchestra took charge and dancing continued until a late hour. Mr and Mrs ft. Grantham, Who '■ have just, returned from their honeymoon, received a surprise on their first evening in their new home, when numbers of friend:; gathered to wish them duck in their married life. To the accompaniment of cat calls and tho banging of tins, the guests arrived and were’ welcomed. They proceeded to make themselves at home and a pleasant evening quickly passed. The health of tho newly weds was drunk with gusto and after assuring them that they were “Jolly good fellows” in no uncertain manner, tlie party broke up. Personal. Messrs B„ J. and D. Managh are at ■present spending a week at Rotorua.
