Gift Afternoon at “Glen Goram,” Taonui
Anemones, ranunculi and Iceland poppies created a riot of colour in the drawing-room of “Glen Go ram” on Saturday, when a gift afternoon was given there by the daughter of the house, Miss Ngaerc Jefferies, for her cousin Beryl. Each of the guests arrived with a photograph of herself in early youth and these when jumbled together by the hostess provided material for a competition. A great deal of amusement resulted and in several instances the original of the pictures were most difficult to recognise. Mrs. Brueo McLeod, Mrs. Noel Shortall and Mrs. E. Linklater were the prize-win-ners. In a second competition the entrants were asked to guess the contents of Miss Beryl Jefferies’ gift parcels and three prizes wero again allotted, the successful competitors being Mis 3 W. Wales, Mrs. Whiteman and Mrs. Shortall. During the afternoon songs were delightfully sung by Mrs. G. Parker and Miss Ngaero Jefferies. A duct by Mrs. W. Bussell (piano) and Miss W. Wales (violin) and a pianoforte item by Mrs. Tv. Masters also gave much pleasure. Afternoon tea made a merry break and the inspection of the bride-elect’s very charming presents also created pleasant diversion. The youthful hostess wore a smart frock of red and black tartan taffeta, while the guest of honour chose one of white suede crepe spotted in brown with which she wore a very becoming picture hat. Those invited to the party were Mesdames A. E. Jefferies, A. G. Jefferies, Bray, C. Masters, Tv. Masters, E. Green, B. McLeod, R. Linklater, F. Krull, Whiteman, G. Parker, G. McVickers, A. Maxwell, W. Bussell and Misses W. Wales, J. Maxwell and L. Adsett.
