He has suffered a severe illness since (ho death of his son, Mr. Hnmish Armstrong, in -an aeroplane mishap. i.Tho friends of Mr. Winston Drew, son of Air. A. K. Drew, Manawatu county clerk, will be pleased to learn that ho is making satisfactory progress after undergoing a further operation in a private hospital in Palmerston .North.

l)r. P. T. Putnam returned yesterday by the Makura from Melbourne, where ho has been attending the British Mcdicai Association conference. Mrs. Putnam has extended her holiday and is staying a month in Sydney.

The many friends of Mr. Arthur Brooking, of Utuwai, who has been laid aside in a private hospital in Palmerston North for the past two months through a severe attack of pneumonia, will be pleased to hear that ho has progressed sufficiently to tie able to proceed to Raumai on Saturday, where he will remain for a time with his son and daughter. Mr. Brooking is one ot the pioneers of the Pohangina district and m the early days constructed many of the roads in the county. He was for a long period a member of the Pohangina County Council and was chairman of the ffabbit Board for 15 years.

Mr. Pcl.x Demery, of London, examiner for the Association of Operatic Dancing of Great Britain, who has been conducting an examination at the Broadway .School of Dancing, left for Wellington this morning to join the Sydney boat eu route for England. Mr. Demery stated that he-had found good work in Palmerston .North, and expressed himself as well pleased with the standard of dancing. Last evening Mr. Demery addressed teachers, parents and students at Miss Gwen Gibbs' studio on the aims and objects of the association, later giving much helpful advice and answering many questions. Miss Gibbs, who had s been responsible for Mr. Demery's visit, served supper for the visitors.
