Telephone Toll Fees

Telephone users will observe that reductions have been made in many toll fees charged as from- the; Ist. October. Reductions arc being made iu two directions. firstly, tho minimum distance for computing charges has been reduced from 20 miles to 71miles. This will affect calls to stations such as Peilding and Rongotea and reduce the charges from -Id. to 3d. for a three-minute conversation. Secondly, the chargeable distances to all stations have been revised. Previously, charges havo been made oa the length of line used but under the revised distances, the charges will be based upon tho shortest route either by road or pole line. For example: tlio charge for a three-minute call to Marton was 7d. and tho new charge will amount to sd. A subscriber who paid -/- for a three-minute call to Upper Ifutt will now be charged 1/3 for the same length of conversation. Tho reductions will represent a considerable saving to Palmerston North telephone subscribers.
