From Our Own Correspondent, Cricket Club Meeting.

On Thursday evening the Halcombe Cricket Club held its annual meeting when there was a fair attendance of members. The following- report was presented: “The cricket season for 193-1 - 35 was productive of many enjoyable games with a satisfactory measure of success. The object of the club was to play the game irrespective of results in the spirit of good fellowship and in this regard the members were eminently successful. Many excellent sportsmen were met with during the coarse of the season. The wish of your committee is that members generally- will continue to enjoy themselves similarly during tho ensuing season. Nine matches were played, six of which were won and three lost. Financially, the position of tho club was unique, in that every member was financial. This in itself is deserving of special mention. Tho loyalty of members has resulted in a credit balance being shown and in addition tho club posesses an adequate supply of material for the coming season. Your committee is desirous of expressing on behalf of the club, Its sincerest thanks to Messrs Heappey, Page, Bieakley, Harris and Rogers for their generous donations whilst tho splendid, action of Mr Cowdrey, our worthy president, m cutting and removing the grass from tho recreation ground was much appreciated and in no small measure contributed towards the satisfactory eondi-' lions under which the games were played. The balance sheet which disclosed a credit balance of (is Gd was considered very creditable, especially as the materials in hand were estimated to be worth about A: 12. Tho election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr J. Heappey: president, Mr W. S. Page, vice-presidents, Messrs W. J. Rogers, C. C. Bieakley, W. H. Harris and fi. J. Managh; lion, secretary and treasurer, Mr J. S. Martin; committee, Messrs 13. AV. Cowdrey, AV. Davies, R. Paulding, W. Stewart and B. Pye; custodian, Mr J. S. Martin; club captain, Mr L. Paulding. Following a discussion it was resolved to reduco subscriptions to Es whilo junior members will pay 2s Gd. The following were the leading averages: Batting, J. Martin, 14 innings, highest score SS, runs 421, average 42.1; Clapham, 4 innings, average 8.2. Stewart 7 innings, average 7.2, Paulding 13 innings, average 5.9. Bowling, B. Pye, 15 wickets, average 4.1; J. Dais, 18 wickets, average 6.1; Paulding, 27 wickets, average 6.1; Marlin, 36 wickets, average 6.2.

Personal. The friends of Mrs AV. S. Page will be sorry to hear that slio has been compelled to enter a' hospital in Palmerston North. After having been in indifferent health for some time Mira Nelson .Anderson is now an inmate of a private hospital in Palmerston North. Halcombo residents will bo wishing her a speedy return to health. Mrs J. S. Martin, who has been spending a holiday in Auckland has returned to her home. Mr IS. K. Bong, Halcombe’s headmaster, is now on the road to recovery, after spending a week off duty. During last week the local school was visited by Inspectors Merrington and Crosby while Senior Inspector McMurtrie was a visitor to Kakariki. Mr A. J. Calder, the Education Board’s agriculture instructor also paid a visit of inspection to the Halcombo school. Dance enthusiasts are due for a most enjoyable evening on Tuesday evening when the combined hockey and Rugby clubs are holding thyir dance as advertised. This funotion is bound to bo an outstanding success.
