The friends of -Mrs X. Close, of No. ” line, Aivahou North, will regret to learn that she has been torced to enter a private hospital in Palmerston North to undergo an operation. Hiss Havis Smart, who lias been spending a short holiday with her parents, ilr and Mrs H. AV. Smart, of Awahou South, has taken up her duties on the staff of the Graytown hospital. Hrs G. Drew and her infant daughter Beth, of Sanson, have returned home after a short visit to Mrs Drew’s .parents, Mr and Mrs H. W. Smart, Of Awahou South. Atiss M. McCormack, who has been visiting Airs G. Hunt, of Awahou South, has returned to Palmerston North. ' Miss A. Palmer and Mr H. Palmer, of Awahou North, have returned from an extended tour of Australia. Mrs T. Harper, of No. 2 line, Awahou North, is at present on holiday at Puvongahau. Bast week members of the Awahou South Ping Pong Club journeyed to Ashhurst for a friendly match with the local club. After a very enjoyable evening s play, Ashhurst proved the winners Dotails were: A team, 16 games to 9* " team, IS games to 7. Those representing Awahou South were the Misses M. l'jtzherbert, V. Montgomery, I. Fenwick. Messrs AV. Smart, W. Montgomery, H. Fit/,herbert, D. Spelman, B. Smart, L. Lucas and M. Fit/.herbert. . A meeting of the vestry of St Aldan h Anglican Church, Awahou North, \\as held in the Awahou North school room on Wednesday evening. Owing to adverse weather conditions the attendance was poor and it is to lie hoped that there, will be a better attendance of members at the next meeting to be held in October. The very boisterous weather experienced in the district lately has resulted in a heavy mortality amongst tli<j young lambs.
