Bulls

From Our Own Correspondent. Rangitikei Sub-union. Football In Rangitikei suffered a setback on Saturday on account of the bad state of most grounds, and only one senior fixture was played—that between Bulls and Mangaweka—which took place on the Bulls domain, the only all-weather ground in the district. Mangaweka was delayed on account of a slip on tho main road, which necessitated a detour, and m consequence the game did not start till 3.45. Bulls took the field with 13 men drawn from both senior and junior teams, and Mangaweka could only muster 14players. Tho visitors were the first to score as tho result of a fine run by 1. Dickson, who got over in a handy placo, enabling D. Potaka to notch an extra two points: Bulls replied with a strong forward movement which carried play into the Mangaweka 25, where Cutts snapped up and went over, then adding the extra points. Mangaweka asserted themselves for tho remainder of tho spell, and Pat Potaka finished off two nice back movements with a brace of tries, one of which D. Potaka converted. Half-time score— Mangaweka 13, Bulls 5. The second spell saw Mangaweka pen Bulls up in tho territory for some time, then Kitto secured and darted over for a good try, and D. Potaka again converted. Bulls tried hard to stem the attacking Mangaweka forwards, and overeagerness cost them a penalty, which D. Potaka turned to good account, making the score Mangaweka 21, Bulls 5. This was the final score in the match, which was refereed by Mr G. Duthie, of Palmerston North, who created a very favourable impression among the supporters and players torn both sides. A regrettable incident. occurred during tho course of the game, when W. Noble, of Mangaweka, was ordered to the sideline for rough play.

'The game between Halcombo and Mangaweka next .Saturday will decide tho senior shield one way or the other, as there is but one point between the two teams, liaicombo being one up. The Mangaweka side will naturally have the advantage of playing on the home ground, and they have brightened up their forwards somewhat since tho two teams met at Halcombe in the first round. Thus it would appear that they will be favourites for tho . game, Haloombe, unfortunately, has not had a competition game- for a while, and this wiL not make its chances any rosier. The winner of the final will bo called upon to defend the president's roseDowf against tho leading Taihape team, and if it still holds the trophy alter this match challenges have to be played against the champions from" Wairoa Sub-union and the Wanganui Metropolitan Union. Thus a full programme is ahead of the Rangitikei champions. Then on September the Rangitikei representatives will have another shot at the Pownall trophy against Wanganui, who sportingly agreed to bring the match to Marton. Rangitikei Ladies’ Golf. On Thursday there will bo an all-day tournament on the Rangitikei course, and ladies have been drawn to play as under, stroke play to be got off in the morning, and a nine hole foursome in tho afternoon.
