A Regrettable Incident
INVESTIGATIONS BEING MADE. (By Official Wireless). United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. RUGBY, July 25. Mr R. A. Butler answered a question in the Uouso of Commons, regarding the reported incident, near Jubbulpo'rc in India, in which British soldiers and Indian villagers wero concerned.
He said that the India Office had so far received only a brief telegraphed report of this regrettable incident, but a more detailed account would be received when local investigations were completed. He read the official statement issued from Simla, saying that on July 17th, women of the village of Karodi were frightened by a British soldier, and, fearing molestation, gave the alarm, whereupon some villagers turned out and assaulted the soldier, who was rescued by an individual from another village, and who is now in hospital. Next night a party of men from a regiment raided another village, mistaking it for Karodi, with the results already cabled. The local Military Commander began an investigation in consultation with the Civil authorities.
