Tbo improvement anil development of I,ho Auckland Aero Club's aerodrome at Maugero to make it suitable for the accommodation of commercial aeroplanes in view of the introduction of' air trunk services between the priucipal cities of New Zealand, and the possibility of an extension of tho Imperial air routo to New Zealand, has been under discussion during tho past few weeks, and definite proposal's wore submitted to the City Council to-night. The proposals involve the expenditure of £31,000 to extend tho present runways, making them suitable for the landing and taking-off of fully-loaded aeroplanes of the largest type. The Unemployment Board is prepared to subsidise tho labour required up to a stated limit. The Public Works Department will provido supervision free of cost and the City Council and other local bodies in tho district aro to be asked to co-opcrate. The council referred the matter to the finance committee for report.
