Dispute Still Simmering

Italy and Abyssinia

LATTER AGAIN TAKING MATTER TO LEAGUE

United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Tuesday, 11.30 p.m. LONDON, March 19.

The Times’ Geneva correspondent says that the Abyssinian Government has informed the League’s SecretaryGeneral of its intention again to submit the Italo-Abyssinian dispute before the League Council, owing to Italy continuing to dispatch troops to East Africa and inability to obtain Italy’s reply regarding submitting the dispute to arbitration.

The Times’ Rome correspondent says that Abyssinia’s decision has surprised official circles, which declare that the direct negotiations were unnecessarily ended. Abyssinia’s complaints about Italian military measures are dismissed as absurd owiug to Abyssinia’s own military preparations. The Times’ Addis Ababa correspondent says that tho Emperor, in a special statement, declared ho was prepared to meet the Italian demands if an impartial inquiry proved AbyssinSi’s responsibility, but ho would not be coerced or intimidated by Italian military preparations into giving satisfaction.
