Gigantic Paris Tower
EIFFEL STRUCTURE DWARFED SCHEME TO DEFEND CITY Tho erection of Paris of a gigantic concrete tower GS-iOit. high nearly twice tEo EeigEt of Snowden and nearly seven tinies tEo EeigEt of tEo Eiffel Tower—is proposed by M. Henri Lossier, a expert, and by M. Fauro Dujarric, an architect wEo has specialised in bridge and tower building. TEo tower would bo equipped at different elevations with three large platforms, having “windows” 06ft. high and 162 ft. wide. Through these, aeroplanes could bo released in any direction. TEo main function of tho tower, which would bo fitted out with antiaircraft guns, would be to aid in protecting tho city from aerial attacks. It is also considered that tho projected tower could bo turned to valuable theapeutic uses, as it could provide in the middle of Paris a sanatorium confering all the benefits of brilliant sunshine and purity of' atmosphere. The tower, it is thought, would also be useful for making scientific observations/ If tho scheme proves feasible, it is hoped to have the construction finished 'in timo for tho proposed big Paris Exhibition in 1937. The tower, conical in shape, is designed to measure Gsoft. in diameter at tho base and 130 ft. in 'diameter at the summit. Tho Eiffel Tower, which would appear liliputian by comparison, is only 981 ft. high.
