From Our Own Correspondent. The To Arakura Tennis Club held its opening day on Monday afternoon. The club was formed nearly four years -ago when the court was laid on the school ground. It is nicely sheltered from prevailing winds, with a variety of native and other shelter trees. The court is also used by the school children who get their, tennis training while still at school. The afternoon was spent in friendly games. Mr. E. Whisker, club captain, apologised for the absence of the president, Mr. W, B. Thomas, asking Mrs. Thomas to take the president’s place. Mrs. Thomas welcomed all visitors and members, served the first ball, and declared the court open. The day was overcast and cool and many good gaipes were enjoyed, after which afternoon tea,...was served by tho lady membprs, ~ '*> A . Chamberlain, J. Hodges and J, Gestro. Mrs. C. Avery and Miss E. Hansen provided afternoon tea. Mr. Gallichan call-; ed for a vote of thanks for the ladies which was carried by acclamation. The friends of Mr. J. 11. Bennett will bo pleased to hear that his health is much improved. He is now able to be about again. » Mrs. C. E. Jones, of Cameron’s line, who has been ill for some time, is now able to be up and Is much improved in health. Mrs. Sid. Graham (Kareama), of Kauwhata pa, passed away on Saturday morning after a brief illness. A tangi is now being held at the pa. A light frost was on tho ground on Monday morning.
