Royal Wedding At End of November
DATE DEFINITELY FIXED
United Press Association —By Electri' 1 Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, Sept. 21. The Prince of Wales is likely to be the best man and Princess Elizabeth bridesmaid at Prince George’s wedding, which is authoritatively fixed for November 29. Tlicir Majesties will drive in full state, escorted by Household Cavalry. Prince George and the Prince of Wales will drive separately, Princess Marina and her parents going in a third procession. A wedding before Christmas was decided upon because Prince George and Princess Marina arc opposed to long engagements. It was first suggested they might await the Duke of Gloucester’s return, but it was felt that it might clash with the King’s silver jubilee. i Both the Archbishops of Canterbury and York will participate in the Westminster Abbey service, after which there will probably be a short service at Buckingham Palace in accordance with the Greek Church rites.
Ceremony May be Broadcast FOE BENEFIT OF EMPIRE LONDON, Sept. 14. Microphones have been installed in Westminster Abbey and consideration is being given to the possibility of an Empire broadcast of the marriage of Prince George and Princess Marina, says the Daily Mail. Although the broadcasting of a Royal marriage is unprecedented, high circles consider that a wonderful opportunity can now be afforded to millions of the King’s subjects all over the world to participate in the Homeland’s rejoicings on a memorable occasion. The relaying of the ceremony is feasible, the choral sections of the service being especially suitable. There will be ample material, too, for a microphone in the crowded streets. Tho question lias been raised, says tho Manchester Guardian, whcther'Princess Marina will practice her own religion after her marriage to Prince George. It is pointed out that her greataunt, the Duchess of Edinburgh, had a private chapel and a Russian priest always in attendance. The Duchess attended an Anglican service occasionally, but did not consider Matins equivalent to the Greek Mass. Court circles believe that Princess Marina will regard the choral Eucharist as a satisfactory substitute for Mass, in view of the Anglo-Catholic rapproachmeat with the Greek Church.
