WORLD CHAMPIONS ENGAGED ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT.
With such names as Gus Sonnenberg, world champion wrestler, and Dr, Freddie Meyer to bring before a Palmerston North audience, the local wrestling authorities have excelled themselves and improved on any contest ever staged in our city. So far this season only two professional bouts have been promoted,, w’ith tho public asking for more. . To get such a first-class match here is a' tribute to tho executive of tho Wrestling Association and to the city, which, on tho occasions where a 'really big event is being held, has never failed to patronise It. That next Wednesday’s bout is tho big occasion there is no gainsaying. One can feel it in the air, and in every quarter where men are foregathered the conversation comes round to tho possibilities of Meyer being able to side-step the deadly and demoralising effect of Sonnenberg’s flying, tackle. The cx-chaunnon is-a short man, about 5$ feet, with a neck measuring 21 inches, making headlocks very difficult to hold; yet Dr. Meyer gave Sonnenberg nine successive headlocka on Wednesday last without losing his grip. With such a -magnificent pair of highly-trainod- athletes in tho. ring: there. is no wonder that this event is creating more .interest • than anv other wrestling event, and we take this opportunity of advising our country readers who propose .to make the trip to town, on Wednesday next to send in to the Central Booking Office as early as possible, as a big rush is expected when the box plans open on Monday morning.
