APPLICATION POR EXEMPTION OF AVERAGE FROM GRADING. Mr. C. N. Eabono presided at a meeting of the Russell Street School Committee last evening, others present being: ’.Messrs. G. S. Trask, M. «L MeArlney, and J. I’. MoDavitt (secretary). The headmaster, Mr. F. C. Campbell, reported a roll of 213, including .12 now admissions. Last term's average was 1 51.7-1, and application had been made to have the figure eliminated from grading returns. Inspectors McMurtrio, Merrington and Crosby had visited flic school in August. Arbor Day had been suitably celebrated. J’upils had staged a concert at the end of the term, raising funds for the purchase of continuous readers. Messrs. Alexander Clark, Ltd., were thanked for a donation of wallpaper patterns. Fetor Compton (son of Constable L. Compton) had had the misfoilunc to break his leg during play. —Adopted. r l he chairman congratulated the children on an excellent concert.

A copy of the petition now being circulated was received. The petition prays the Speaker and members of the House of representatives to repeal those sections of the Finance Act (1032) and of the Educational Amendment Act (1932-33) which inhibit the attendance of five-year-old pupils at schools. Mr. M. 11. Oram returned thanks for his election to the Wanganui Education Board. The committee expressed sympathy with Mr. Oram in his present iilness. It nns decided to write to Mr. F. F. Vasey, expressing regret that, the committee should lose his services, which the school had enjoyed since its foundation. Tributes were paid to his work. Mr. F. W. Coombs was appointed to the committee in Mr. Yasey’s stead. The vacancy on the dental clinic committee was filled by Mr. Trask.
