Gun Club's Twenty-fifth Annual Meeting

SUCCESSFUL YEAR RECORDED Mr. N D. Stubbs presided over a good attendance, including visitors from YVoodville, at the 25th annual general meeting of the Palmerston North Gun Club held last evening. Numerous apologies for unavoidable absence were received. The annual report (previously published) and tho balance-sheet, revealing a credit of £4 19s, were read and adopted. The chairman mentioned that it was 25 vears since the. club had actual!' been formed and Messrs YV Turner (who was present that evening) and Mi. G McDonald had been mainly instrumental in bringing about the inception of the body. Messrs D. Lloyd and E. V. Lloyd had. also been associated with the success achieved, as were the- late Mr. F. H. Stockwell and A. YY. Just, who came in later. The speaker went on to recall the salient activities of tho club and declared that it was most gratifying to sec that tho sport of shooting—one of the finest a man could indulge in—was being carried on in the district. YV itli dog and gun a man had tho very best of sportsmanship instilled into him. The New Zealand clay bird championships had once been held on the golf links and it was interesting to recall that on tho first day in j 914 there had been 50 taking part at that fixture.

Mr. Turner also referred to the anniversary of the club and endorsed the opinion that it was a. matter for congratulation that the sport was being carried on so enthusiastically. It- was also pleasing to see that Air. Y\. Hunter was still the auditor and had carried out. these duties efficiently for the 25year period. Election of Officers. The following officers were elecled for tho ensuing season: — Patron, Air. Basil Thomson; president, Air. N. D. Stubbs; vice-presidents, Messrs L. G. Afillward, A. W. Akers, E. L. Barnes, F. Cousins, B. J. Jacobs, F. Ormsby, YV. YVcdtlell, G. Louni, J. Egan, E. G. Smith, E. R. YYimsett, C. A. Rolfc, J. Davidson, YY. YV. Cook, H. Collinson, AL Kcarins, A. E. Hansel, YY. A. Thomson, E. Houlihan and the Rev. Father Hcgarty; secretary, Air. J. B. O’Sullivan; treasurer, Air. YY. A. Thomson; auditor, Air. \V. Hunter; liandicapper, Air. J. Egan; committee, Aiessrs \V. A. Thomson, B. IC. Thomson, AL Kearins, J. Egan, I’. A. Meehan, Peter Meehan, 11. Collinson, YV. YV. Cook, A. YV. Akers, E. E. YYimsett, L. Afillward and VY. Turner.

A special vote of thanks was accorded the secretary (Mr. J. B. O’Sullivan) for his work in the interests of the club. A similar motion of appreciation. was accorded Mr. AV. Hunter as auditor. Detailed Brize List. Brizes won during the year were then presented. The various trophy winners included W. A. Thomson (2), B. K. Thomson, M. Keanus (2), AV. AV. Cook (3), J. Beard, It. ft. Smith and C. A. Kofe. The championship medal went to AV. A. Thomson, the Cook cup to C. A. Kofe and the Louni cup to B. K. Thomson. K. G, Smith, C, A. Kofe, .M. Kcarins and A\ r . A, Thomson wore runners-up for other trophies and were awarded prizes accordingly. The donors of trophies, who were accorded a tote of thanks, included Messrs E. It. AVimsett, J. Davidson, AV. A. Thomson, id. Kcarins, 11. Collinson, AV. AV. Cook', A. AV. Akers, C. A. Kofe, L. Millward, it. G. .Smith, B. K. Thomson and X. D. Stubbs. Hollowing the transaction of the routine business members met together for a social hour. A vote of thanks was passed to the Palmerston North Bowling Club for the use of the pavilion for the function last evening.
