Loss of Rates on Crown Properties

DIFFICULTIES OF LOCAL BODIES “.[ don’t care what happens; I’m not going to increase tho rate in my riding to make up the deficit resulting from the loss of rates on Crown sections,” said Cr. W. Hair at yesterday ’s meeting of tho Kiwitea County Council. He said that his riding account was in debit owing to the loss of rates on a forfeited Crown section, and it was unfair to expect tho other ratepayers in the riding to meet this liability. He know the difficulties under which farmers were labouring, and they could not be asked to carry nn extra rate burden to meet the losses on forfeited Crown properties. “It’s not a fair pop,” lie said.

’’You won’t have to worry about it when riding accounts are abolished,” remarked the chairman (Cr C. T. McLean).

“But that will not remove the exist nig evil,’’ said Cr. Hair.
