Abolition of Riding Accounts Likely

IN KIWITEA COUNTY In the course of his annual report at yesterday’s meeting of the Kiwitea County Council the chairman (Cr. L. T. McLean) referred to tho matter of doing away with riding accounts. "Tho question of the abolition of the riding accounts will again be considered by the council at an early date, and I am of the opinion that flic matter is worthy of the fullest, consideration, particularly from an economy point of view,” he said. "In my annual report of Mnv 22, 1929, I. suggested that the Government, should bo urged to enact legislation lo abolish Lie system of keepiiiT separate accounts for each ridiri" and allow county councils to keep one main account as is the case with cities and boroughs. The necessary legislation was introduced in JOo.l, a.nd in the interim quite a. number of county councils have made 'lie changeover. It is hard lo form an estimate of what the actual saving would bo to this council, but taking everything into consideration, the county as a whole would greatly benefit by abolishing the riding accounts.”
