It was the first of the series of matches for the weekly competition. Considering the weather conditions and the consequent poor state of the ground, the match showed a good standard of play, and was a successful opening of tho season. In the first half only one goal was scored, and this by IV. Eansom (Bunnythorpe), who later scored three more goals. Other goals were scored by R. Butler (Bunnythorpe), D. Schiierike, J. Pink and M. Kearns (H. 5.0.8.). Acting as referees were Mr J. K. Paton (first half) and Mr A. E. Blackbourn _ (second half). C. AND C. BEAT GLEN OROUA Travelling to Rongotea, C. and C. had the luck of the day to win their game with Glen Oroua by three goals to two. Miss P. Highfield did all the scoring for the city team and Missß, Davis and Miss E. Hill netted once each for Glen Oroua. On the day’s play C. and C. were fortunate to scrape a win. It was only faulty stick work and obstruction in the circle that cost Glen Oroua several goals. Their team work and positional play was superior, and they also showed to advantage by adopting long hitting, whereas the winning eleven indulged in short, snappy passing that was not suitable on the
rough ground. For tho last 15 minutes Glen Oroua held the circle all tho time. The ground could have boon greatly improved by a rolling and mowing. Mr F. McLachlan had solo charge of the game.
