Autumn Setting for Pretty Evening Wedding

THOMSON—SHELTON Chrysanthemums and dahlias in rich autumn tonings formed the attractive decorations at St. Paul’s Church, Broadway avenue, for a pretty evening wedding on Monday, May 7, when Marjorie Lilian, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Arthur Shelton, of College street, Palmerston North, was married to John Lawrence, younger son of Mr and Mrs A. Thomson, of Gisborne. The ceremony was performed by Kev, A. N. Scottor and Mr J. Holmes Runniclcs played the wodding music. Escorted by her father, the bride looked most picturesque in her simplyfashioned gown of ivory-tinted metalasse, which was cut on classical lines and fell to form a train. The closefltting corsage had a V yoke with inset bands of faggoting and long, tight sleeves. Her long tulle veil was caught to her head by a circlet of orange blossom and she carried a sheaf of chrysanthemums. In attendance were four ’maids — Miss Nancy Shelton, sister of- the bride; Miss Lili'ias Smith (Wellington), Misses Joan Rudkin and Joyce Ell (both of Christchurch), cousins of the bride. They wore distinctive frocks of gold wind-swept satin, cut similarly to the bride’s and slightly trained, also halos of gold and orange flowers and carried autumn-tinted bouquets. Mr L. Thomson, of Gisborne, was the best man and •Mr Ted Chamberlain the groomsman. During the signing- of the register vocal' solos were beautifully rendered by Miss P. Liddell and Mr N. Shelton. At the reception following, .which was held at the Rosco tearooms, Mr and Mrs Shelton welcomed about 90 guests, the lounge and reception room being beautified with spring bulbs and Iceland poppies in glowing colours. Mrs Shelton wore a graceful frock of Lido blue crepe regent and a matching hat. She carried a bouquet of rose sweet peas and carnations. Mrs Thomson, mother of the bridegroom, woro a gown of blue crepe satin, with hat to tone, and carried a bouquet of pink lilies. Rev. A. N. Scotter was toast master and Miss Liddell and Mr N. Shelton again delighted the company with their vocal' solos. The bride and bridegroom left later by car, the bride travelling in a Lido blue flecked frock and tailored coat of blue afgalaine with a smart felt hat. Mr and Mrs Thomson will make thei r new home in Hawora, where Mr Thomson, formerly on the staff of the Palmerston North Boys’ High Schol, has accepted a position on the staff of the Hawcra High School.
