From Our Own Correspondent. On Saturday afternoon Ashliurst mot Woodvillo in the third grade competition. Tho match was played in heavy rain and tho few spectators who braved the elements were rewarded with a game of many bright individual efforts, but almost entirely lacking in combined play. Several times the Woodville backs, led by Brandon and E. Beale, tried to open up play but the greasy ball proved too difficult to handle and the game developed into a struggle between the forwards. The teams lined out as follow: —Woodville: Murray, Burliss, Lloyd, Beale, Warnick, E. Beale, Brandon, Halford, Kinley, Walker, Banks, Sargeant, Blatchford, Court, Canton. Ashhurst: K. Doreen, Doreen, Stratton, Garnett, Pedersen, Templeton, Baton, W. Raisin, Maunder, Raisin, Pick, Smith, Nivett, Pedersen, Cook, The game ended, Woodville IS, Ashhurst nil. Mr. J. Fulton maintained an efficient control. , , Tho monthly meeting of ibc school committee was held last Tuesday evening, Mr. F. A. Dunstall presiding. There were also present Mrs. O. Kerrigan, Messrs IC. D. Davis. M. P. Wilkin, O. Kerrigan, M, J. Murphy and H. W. Drummond. In welcoming the now members, the chairman expressed tho pleasure felt at having a lady on the committee. He was sure that Mrs. Kerrigans est would react to the benefit of the children and the school. The headmaster, Mr. H. Fenwick, reported that the results of tho first term examinations were quite satisfactory. Tho attendance continued to bo excellent, 93 per cent, of the children attending daily. Various works carried out on the school grounds since the last meeting were reported as satisfactory by the inspecting committee. Upon Mrs. Kerrigan expressing her desire to donate prizes for the children showing tho greatest advancement in each of the classrooms, the headmaster sa.ia ho was very pleased with the offer. In his opinion, prizes given on these conditions wore appreciated most highly pi the children. The report of tho cocoa, club disclosed that over 30 children weie taking advantage of the scheme. It vas decided to recommence distribution at the beginning of next term. Rifle Shooting. The Ashliurst Defcnco Rifle Club held its weekly shoots last week, which completed the various aggregates foi the 1938-84 season. The Wednesday squad fired under ideal conditions, the day being the best experienced, while the Saturday shoot Was conducted under the worst conditions experienced since. «ie range has been oponed.
