Longburn
From Our Own Correspondent. A pleasant function took place at the school last Friday when the pupils and teachers assembled to farewell Miss C. T. O’Donnell, a member of the staff, who is leaving to take up a position at Manaia. Mr. .T. Calleson, chairman of the school committee, spoke in glowing terms of the way in which Miss O’Donnell had performed her duties while she had been in Dongburn, stating tliat the interests of the children were always her first Consideration. Margaret Oliver, a pupil of standard 6, presented Miss O'Donnell with a fountain pen and box of handkerchiefs from the children and the staff. Replying on behalf of Miss O’Donnell, the headmaster (Mr. C, 0. Hills) said that he was sure he was echoing the sentiments of all, when he said that Miss O'Donnell was going to be greatly missed, not only as a teacher, but as a friend. The children then sang "Auld Dang Syne” and "For She’s a Jolly Good Follow,” during which a protty bouquet was presented to Miss O'Donnell. Mr. Hills called for cheers and the enthusiasm with which they were given left no doubt as to Miss O'Donnell’s popularity. A social evening was held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Hills on Saturday evening. Dancing occupied the major portion of the time, and there were two competitions which were won by Mrs. Godfrey and Mr. J. Paul. Supper was served, after which Mr. Hills 3tated that It gave him great pleasure to be able to entertain his friends. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Paul, Mr. and Mrs. D. Boldt, Mrs. Godfrey, Misses H. Hills, R. Birch, J. Irvine. J. Campbell, N. Blundell, J. Sherriffs, M. Harper, M. Edgar, V. Berryman, J. Mcßae, C. Rowland, Messrs C. and D. Hills, T. Brown, \y. and J. Aldersloy, G. James, F. and J. I-learsey, V. Cunningham, C. Sherriffs, E. Joweil, H. Mabey, W. Burne, R. Hill, K. Duncalf, M. Birch, R. Tannor, V. Screech, A. Fisher. Mrs. A. F. Anderson, of Wanganui, has been staying with Mrs.- 11. Allen. Misses H., O. and F. Holland, of Wellington, are at present visiting Mrs, Allen. , , Mrs. B. Zui-chcr is spending a holiday in Napier. Miss J. Irvine, who has been the guest of Mrs. F. S. Birch, has returned to Hamilton. Despite the bad weather there was a good number of shooters at the weekly shoot of tire Dongburn Miniature Rific Club. It.
